A feature of the Villa which draws attention from
the neighborhood at large
is the Grotto, dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes in 1949 and renovated in 1999. During the months
of May and October, the Sisters and their neighbors pray the Rosary there
each weekday evening. This serene setting, featuring a decorative bridge
over the goldfish pond, beautful plantings, and aquatic grasses, is perfect
for a few minutes of quiet reflection. The Grotto is the location of the
annual May Crowning, in which the Villa students participate. The Grotto
features a memorial brick patio, where benefactors of the Villa have purchased
engraved bricks in memory of or in honor of their loved ones. Despite its
immediate proximity to the playground, the Grotto inspires reflection and
prayer regardless of the time of day.
