Birthdays
- Children’s birthdays and half birthdays for summer birthdays
may be celebrated in the classroom. Parents may bring bakery or
store baked treats to school. The teachers prefer cookies, simple
cupcakes or a packaged treat that is easy to distribute and clean
up.
- If any children have a food allergy or other medical condition
that prevents them from having the treat, the teachers try to provide
a substitut
e snack from the school kitchen.
Change of clothing
- All students must have a change of clothing in a bag for emergencies
- All clothing must be clearly marked with the child’s name
- The extra set of clothes is kept in the classroom or locker
Communication
School
- The Director sends home a weekly memo
every Thursday
- Additional notices and reminders are posted on the school door
and the bulletin board near the front entrance
- There is a file folder for every family
located outside the school office—parents are asked to check
the folder daily, take the information, and leave the folder in
the file box
- Telephone calls for emergencies
- Conferences with teachers and parents
- Incident/Accident reports—parents sign and receive a copy
Teacher
Discipline
- Discipline is developmentally related to the child’s actions
and will be in proportion to the particular behavior
- The child will be made aware of the relationship between the
act and the consequence
- The staff uses practices designed and carried out to help individual
children develop self-control and assume responsibility for their
own actions—eg. speaking quietly with the child; redirecting
the child’s behavior; brief time-out to gain control (usually
a few minutes—according to age)
- Teachers/the Director will inform parents when there is a concern
about a child’s behavior
- Consistency and cooperation between parents and school help the
child develop a healthy social behavior
Emergencies
Personal/Family
- If a child becomes sick or injured at school, every effort is
made to notify parents immediately
- It is essential that parents’ current home, work and cell
phone numbers be registered in the school office at the beginning
of each year and updated when changes occur
- All Emergency Forms must be completed in their entirety, including
names of the person(s)/phone numbers responsible for the child(ren)
in the parents’ absence.
Building
Lockers
- The children’s lockers are located in the playroom.
- Since two children share each locker, it is important that parents
check the lockers daily and leave only the items that are needed
for the day.
- Some teachers leave the students’ class folders or projects
on top of the lockers. Please check the area carefully each day.
Medication
- Our school follows the guidelines for administration of medication
as defined by the Health Advisory Committee of the St. Louis Archdiocese.
- Most medications do not need to be administered at school. Any
medication that is given three times a day should be given at home
(morning, after school and bedtime)
- The school will not administer the FIRST dose of any medication.
- If a medication (prescription or over-the counter) must be given
at school, the following requirements must be met:
- An emergency authorization form must be on file in the school
listing the name of the child’s physician and phone numbers.
- There must be a written physician’s order for the medication
with the name of the student, name of the medication, dosage, time
interval to be given (if ordered “as needed” a plan
must be provided), and diagnosis or reason for the medication. A
current prescription label on the container may serve as the physician’s
order.
- Written permission must be provided by the parent/guardian requesting
that the school comply with the physician’s order.
- Prescription medication must be brought to school in a container
appropriately labeled by the pharmacy. Non- prescription (over-the
counter) medication must be in the original container. Ideally,
the parent will have two containers, one for home and one for school.
The child will need a new prescription each school year.
- If there is ANY change in the dose or timing of the medication,
the physician must submit the change in writing. This may be faxed
or mailed to the school. A parent may not give permission to administer
medication differently than the physician’s order.
- The school has the right to call the physician to clarify a medication
order.
- If your child requires Tylenol or cough syrup for a cough, you
need a physician’s order. Please contact your physician and
have the order sent to the school. Over-the-counter medications
in the original container must be supplied by the parent.
- Parents must sign a medication form and leave the medicine in
the school office.
Policy on Illness/Fever
- A policy mandated by the Missouri Department of Senior
Services Bureau of Child Care
requires that a child be sent home from school when a fever of 100
degrees or higher is recorded.
- The child may return to school only after being fever-free for
24 hours without the use of a fever suppressant medication
- All parents will be asked to sign a medical release form, with
the date and degree of fever recorded, at the time of pick up
- Cooperation with this policy by both parents and the school will
help prevent the spread of virus and disease.
- Medications that suppress fever, such as Tylenol and Motrin, may
not be administered in school
