It has been a long-standing tradition at Sacred Heart Villa that the school children make an Act of Consecration during a prayer service to the Sacred Heart of Jesus each October. The children learn that we have this special time of prayer to show Jesus we are grateful and happy to know He loves us. On October 16th the Catholic Church honors St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, a woman who was a religious sister from 1671-1690. Over the course of eighteen months, she was blessed with visions of The Sacred Heart of Jesus. The Sacred Heart of Jesus asked her to help others come to know the abundant love in His Heart. Jesus encouraged her to spread the news that he wanted people to consecrate themselves to His Sacred Heart. The Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the religious sisters who staff and own our school, have a zealous desire to share the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus with all those they serve. In all the schools where the Apostles serve, there is always a consecration ceremony each school year. At The Villa we have always had the consecration on the feast day of Saint Margaret Mary or the closest day to it. On Friday October 15th, the kindergarten class led this prayer service. All the classes attended the prayer time in the playroom while keeping socially distant to other classes. The children’s prayers and songs to the Sacred Heart of Jesus expressed their desire to give their hearts’ love, all that they think, all that they do and all that they say to Jesus in return for His great love. They asked for blessings on their families, the children, and staff of The Villa, and for peace in our world. We hope this devotional practice will make an impression on the children and form in their hearts a great desire to imitate Jesus’ love for everyone.
