The vision of Sacred Heart Villa began to take shape in October 1937, when Archbishop Glennon granted permission—through the efforts of Father Lupo, pastor of St. Ambrose Parish—to purchase property at the corner of Macklind and Wilson. The goal was to establish a kindergarten and day nursery that would serve as an ideal childcare facility for working mothers on “The Hill.” The mission was not only to provide a safe, caring, and nurturing environment during workday hours, but also to offer children a strong and high-quality foundation in preparation for elementary school, while preserving the rich Italian culture and heritage of the community.
Since its founding, the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus have guided and sustained the mission of Sacred Heart Villa.
Today, Sacred Heart Villa serves children ages two through four. The program operates from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., providing lunch and two snacks daily. Its convenient location makes it an ideal choice for parents working in the Central West End or downtown areas. Nestled in a warm, family-friendly neighborhood on The Hill, the Villa is supported by a strong sense of community among local businesses and residents.
While the Sisters continue to play an important role in shaping the spirit of Sacred Heart Villa, their work has been enriched by dedicated lay staff who embody the mission, spirit, and charism of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart.
