Pre-K 4 Program

At Sacred Heart Villa, our Pre-K 4 classroom is a place where children learn by doing. Every activity is planned for hands-on learning, so children build skills through sensory exploration, literacy, math, fine motor work, science, art, music and dramatic play. Curiosity leads the way and our teachers guide children as they discover, ask questions, and grow in confidence.

Our Curriculum

Heggerty Phonemic Awareness
Short, playful daily lessons help children hear, notice, and play with the sounds in words. Through rhyming, listening games, and sound practice, children build the foundation they need to become strong readers.

Universal Handwriting
Children learn correct letter formation step by step, using multisensory, developmentally appropriate activities. Strong fine motor skills and good habits now make writing easier and more enjoyable later.

Stories of God's Love Preschool Program

Bible stories help children come to know God's love in ways they can understand. Through storytelling, conversation, and reflection, children learn that they are loved and cared for by God. Children attend Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (Atrium with Sr. Matthew) one day a week. The religion curriculum also includes booklets and activities to accompany each lesson and Bible story.

Learning Centers

Children rotate through learning centers that invite them to explore, create, and play with friends:

  • Sensory Table and Science Center: Children touch, pour, measure, and observe as they explore the world around them.
  • Art Center: Children express their ideas and build fine motor skills with a variety of materials.
  • Building Center: Blocks and construction toys encourage problem-solving, teamwork, and early math and engineering skills.
  • Book Center: A cozy space to enjoy books, retell stories, and develop a love of reading.
  • Dramatic Play Center: Pretend play builds language, imagination, and social skills as children take on new roles.
  • Loose Parts Center: Open-ended materials spark creativity and let children invent, arrange, and experiment in their own way.
  • Handwriting Center: Children practice letters and pre-writing skills through hands-on activities.

Our Themes

Our themes keep learning fresh and connected to children's everyday lives. Throughout the year, we will explore:

  • All About Me
  • Apples
  • Community Helpers
  • Families
  • Favorite Stories
  • Friends
  • Holidays
  • Letters and Sounds
  • Numbers
  • Nursery Rhymes
  • Seasons
  • The Five Senses
  • Transportation

Each theme shapes our books, songs, art and play, so children see ideas from many angles and remember what they learn. Through hands-on learning, strong early literacy skills, and plenty of time to play and grow, our Pre-K 4 children leave ready, confident and excited for kindergarten.
